Worth it...

It's Monday morning, you wake up, and proceed with your usual morning routine. You didn't do much over the weekend, other than go out with some friends, and catch up on the latest episodes of your favorite tv series. It was a weekend of lounging, light socialization, some doom scrolling, and nothing more. You may have told yourself it would be an exhilarating weekend, but here you are, another Monday morning with a weekend behind you of which you have nothing to write home about. You feel a lack of motivation as you get yourself to the office, or get logged on to your screens. The feeling of watching the time pass you by, as your life seems to remain the exact same. You notice how your energy always seems to be low, and as you think about the future, you feel a strong sense of uncertainty, and a bit of anxiety. These feelings drive you to distract yourself; grabbing a coffee, immersing yourself in work, or worse.. more doom scrolling. How long can this go on for? The answer lies with your answer to the question of how long will you continue to tolerate this lifestyle? You are faced with two decisions every second of the day. Those two choices are distilled down to this, who do your daily decisions support; the best version of yourself, or the worst version of yourself? Let's analyze this a bit more, don't worry, we'll keep it simple. The worst version of yourself:

  • Low, & inconsistent energy;

  • Taking no responsibility;

  • Poor eating habits;

  • Excessive drinking;

  • Poor sleeping hygiene;

  • Lack of productivity;

  • Unhappy, & unfulfilled;

  • Follow this trend. The best version of yourself:

  • Good, & balanced energy;

  • Owning your actions;

  • Controlled, & healthy eating habits;

  • Controlled drinking;

  • Sufficient sleep;

  • Productive;

  • Feelings of fulfillment;

  • Feeling motivated more frequently;

  • Follow this trend. Which version appeals to you most? The version that seems out of control, with no fulfillment? or the version with absolute control, and a true sense of fulfillment? It doesn't seem like much of a toss-up, but the choices are yours to make. If you don't want change, stay on the same track, you'll get what you bargained for. On the other hand, if you want change, and are not sure how to proceed, here are a few ways to start.

  • Get active. Start walking, or exercising in some capacity, and stick to this without compromise;

  • Start a healthy habit, and let it compound.

    • Drink water, or diet instead of regular soda;

    • Bring fruit to work to manage sugar cravings;

    • Limit leisurely phone usage during work day. It's critical you begin small, time will do the rest;

  • Start holding yourself accountable: with every decision you make, question whether or not it benefits the version of yourself you want to support;

  • Stop waiting to feel motivated, or inspired. If you want change, you need to get up and do the work. The feelings of being inspired, and motivated are fleeting, your consistency is what will produce results. Be relentless.

Follow these steps if you feel lost, discouraged, weak, or unfulfilled, and want to change. It's worth it.
